Movies directed by Yong Hwa Kim is already very succesful released in South Korea. Along with the Gods: The Two World is derived from a webtoon story titled the same that can also be considered a success.
This movie tells about the understanding of buddhas who know of karma, the day of revenge and reincarnation. Anyone who dies will be trial in seven hells in 49 days. If anyone can get through it, the soul can return to the world of the living or in other words: reincarnation.
The film begins with a firefighter named Kim Ja-hong (Cha Tae-hyun) who died from an accident while in charge of rescuing people. He meets three guardian angels, Gang-rim (Ha Jung-woo), Haewonmak (Ju Ji-hoon), and Dukchun (Kim Hyang-gi), who is in charge of Ja-hong during his time in the afterlife world. These three guardian angels are actually spirits who have lived for a century in the afterlife and are assigned to seek the good souls who want to reincarnate.
In a sense of confusion about his death, Ja-hong inevitably has to follow the procedure that exists in the world after death by going to the seven hells and trying to convince the god that he can come back alive. However, every hell he comes has the demands of the evil that he did during the world that prevents him from being reincarnated. These three guardian angels are in charge of helping Ja-hong. If they can make 49 reincarnated lives, they are allowed to reincarnate as well as the person they want to be.
In essence, this film tells you that everything you do in the world will now be held accountable in the afterlife. Even for the slightest evil, the angels will record it and incriminate you in the afterlife. Yes, while watching movies, you can think again hehehe…
The visuals in this movie are mostly CGI results. It's not all as smooth as a big Hollywood movie. There are some parts that make the quality of editing seem cheap, like the action chase that looks weird. However, there are still many parts that are described with a cool in this film that is on the afterlife, such as deserts, forests, and places of trial.
The Two World has a joke of its characters that will make you tickle yourself while watching or take out a small laugh. However, not long ago you made a smile-smile, the mood of the film will immediately change drastically into a drama that makes chest pain, lips vibrate, and tears flowing. This movies features a melancholy side of a mother and child who always appears when the film is in the serious part.
Along with the Gods: The Two World is a movie I recommend to watch. Get ready tissue to cry ;)
